Gary Janzen, PE

Gary has been the Director of Public Works & Utilities since March 2023. He served as the City Engineer for eleven years prior to this appointment, and now oversees a department of nearly 800 employees, an annual operating budget of $270 million, and CIP in excess of $2 billion. Gary has a Bachelor’s in Civil Engineering from Kansas State University.

Gary serves as Chair of the Valley Center Planning Commission and on the Board for the following organizations: Kansas Society of Professional Engineers, Independent Living Resource Center, and Equus Beds Groundwater Management District 2. He was appointed to the Kansas Water Authority in 2023, and to the Kansas Water Program Task Force in 2025.
